The Rotary Foundation

The Rotary Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Rotary International funded through the tax deductible gifts of individual Rotarians, clubs, and districts.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary’s mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs.

Through the foundation, Rotary provides financial support for three primary categories of programs including:

  •  PolioPlus – an international effort focused on the eradication of polio through specific social mobilization and surveillance activities in polio-endemic countries.
  •  Humanitarian Grants Programs – service projects aimed at humanitarian efforts at the both the local and international level.  Such grant programs include Health, Hunger, and Humanity grants (3H Grants), Matching grants, Discovery grants, and Community Assistance grants.
  •  Educational Programs – programs geared toward promoting international goodwill and cultural understanding.  Such programs include Ambassadorial Scholarships, Rotary Grants for University Teachers, Rotary Centers for International Studies, and Group Study Exchange.

The Birmingham Sunrise Rotary Club supports the efforts of The Rotary Foundation through the individual contributions of its members.  A portion of each member’s quarterly dues are earmarked for contribution to the foundation and each member is encouraged to consider additional contributions as appropriate for his or her individual circumstances.  Note that the Rotary Foundation will accept gifts as memorials.
